Crown Prince Naruhito was born 23 February 1960 at the Tokyo Imperial Palace, Tokyo, Japan. He was enthroned on 22 October 2019. His father was Emperor Akihito. Naruhito’s reign began on May 1, 2019 to the present. His Enthronement took place on October 22, 2019. This event is similar to what the English would refer to as the Coronation or crowning of the monarch. Naruhito’s heir apparent or next in line to the Japanese throne is his oldest son, Fumihito. Naruhito’s wife is Princess Masako Owada. They were married in 1993 in the Shinto religion. Today the new Emperor of Japan is His Imperial Majesty Emperor Naruhito.
