This was the last formal portrait of the Emperor Hirohito and his wife the Empress Kojun before he passed away and his son Achihito became the next Emperor. In this photo Emperor Hirohito and his wife have made a considerable effort to use western style dress. This certainly was a very adorable official portrait of Their Imperial Majesties of Japan. Indeed a very fitting photo.
